After being put in to bat, Mumbai Indians were off to the worst start possible losing Parthiv Patel in the first over courtesy a sensational piece of fielding from Faf du Plessis at mid-on.

The Mumbai Indians captain was at his aggressive best and scored his fifty off just 25 balls.

Dwayne Bravo ended the 119-run association for the second wicket between Rohit and Simmons when the West Indian had Rohit caught at long-on in the 12th over.

Lendl Simmons scored 68 off 45 balls and played second fiddle to Rohit to perfection.

CSK gambled with Dwayne Smith and it worked as he took the wicket of Simmons with a cracker of a yorker.

With some lusty hits Kieron Pollard kept pace with the Mumbai Indians run-rate and scored 36 off 18 balls.

Ambati Rayudu too did his part with the bat clobbering 36 off 24 balls as MI went on to post 202 for 5.

Rohit Sharma and Lendl Simmons then counter-attacked in a brilliant fashion and did not allow CSK to build any kind of momentum. The duo took MI to 61 for 1 after the first six overs.

Dwayne Smith struggled to get going mostly owing to a disciplined bowling effort by the MI new ball bowlers. He managed to get to his fifty off 44 balls.

With the run-rate going up exponentially, CSK lost the plot and McClenaghan claimed his second wicket by removing Dwayne Bravo.

In defence of 203, Mitchell McClenaghan provided MI with the prefect start as he removed Michael Hussey for four.

Suresh Raina scored 28 off 19 balls but failed to build on it and became Harbhajan's second victim of the night.

Along with Raina, Smith put on a 66 run-stand, before he was scalped by Harbhajan Singh.

The final nail in CSK's coffin was driven in by Lasith Malinga who castled MS Dhoni for 18.

Riding on fifties from Lendl Simmons (68) and Rohit Sharma (50), and a disciplined bowling performance helped Mumbai Indians (202/5) defeat Chennai Super Kings (161/8) by 41 runs.
