 Profile
From Ravichandran Ashwin to the latest entrant into the Indian team - Washington Sundar, Tamil Nadu's penchant for off-spinners is a known fact. A rare talent went unnoticed among these two offies. Malolan Rangarajan is a popular name in the TN domestic circuit. Making his FC debut in 2011 for his state side against Madhya Pradesh on a placid track at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium, Tamil Nadu piled on the runs batting first and Rangarajan unveiled his batting might - scoring a stubborn 28 and 48 in both innings respectively. With the ball, Malu as he's fondly called, took 2 scalps and was instrumental in his team skittling out the opponents for 289.

Despite a decent performance, Rangarajan was ignored for the remaining few matches and had to warm the benches. Strong shows in league cricket and Rangarajan proved to be a strong contender to take the role of the lead spinner in the TN set-up for the next two years. 2013-14 and 2014-15 turned out to be a unforgettable seasons for the off-spinner - picking up 26 and 36 wickets respectively. Malu went onto represent the South Zone team in the Deodar Trophy in 2015, however the emergence of Washington Sundar saw Rangarajan lose his place from the state for the next few years and he ended up eventually moving to Uttarakhand for the 2018-19 season, thanks to BCCI's expansion of the domestic structure.
