Brett was an early bird as far as his cricketing career was concerned. He made his first class debut first before boarding the flight down under for the under-19 World Cup. During the biennial event, he picked up 5 wickets from only 4 games.

Born in Doncaster, Yorkshire, Hutton decided to play for Nottinghamshire and graduated through the age groups of the Club. His penchant for bowling outgrew his intentions of being an attacking batsman. From under-13s to under-17s, he represented the club with distinction. But Nottinghamshire slipped into division two after 2016 and despite having a wonderful season for the club in 2017, he decided to sign a three year deal for Northamptonshire.
