A right-handed opening batsman, Michael Gough, played 67 first-class and 49 List-A matches for Durham. He found himself on the periphery of the national selectors after England-A tours but failed to barge into the international scene. He was not spectacular but was a steady batsman. After his playing career, Gough went onto become an umpire.
