Maduka Liyanapathiranage was a part of the 2010 Under-19 World Cup in New Zealand and performed decently in the tournament. He was also Sri Lanka U-19's key spinner in their tour against Pakistan in December 2009 where he took a four-wicket haul. His first-class debut came in February 2012 for Colombo Cricket Club and made 60 as well as took 4 wickets in the first innings of the game. He has over 100 wickets and over 700 runs in first-class cricket to his name.
