 Profile
An attacking off-spinner, who imparts ample flight to the ball, Richard Dawson, came into the spotlight when he bowled Yorkshire to their first Championship crown since 1968. Dawson's efforts were rewarded with a call up for England's tour of India in 2001. Dawson had a fair debut, taking the wickets of VVS Laxman, Anil Kumble, Sanjay Bangar and Harbhajan Singh but conceded 134 runs. With Ashely Giles establishing himself as England's front-line spinner, opportunities to Dawson were few and far between. Dawson's Test career lasted 7 matches.

He was picked in the preliminary English squad for the 2004 Champions Trophy but failed to make the final cut.

Post retirement, Dawson went on to become a journalist. In 2008 though, he returned to county cricket, taking up a coaching position (spin coach) with Gloucestershire.
