SUMMARY

Born July 24, 1867, Brighton, Sussex, Fred Tate played just a lone Test for England. This was the famous Ashes Test in 1902 at Manchester, where the Aussies edged the hosts by 3 runs.

Tate though was a giant at the first-class level for Sussex. An off-spinner, who also chipped in with some medium pace, he picked up 1331 wickets in a career that lasted close to two decades. He died in 1943, aged 75.
