A comprehensive victory for the Qalandars, they've started on a winning note. The Kingsmen will take the positives and will look to come back better in their next match. PSL keps rolling and do join us tomorrow for the second match. For now, cheers and bye..
Shaheen Afridi | Lahore Qalandars Captain - We enjoyed it, we've been together for the last week and have had good game time. Fakhar and Naeem were excellent in the powerplay with the batting. We struggled a bit in the middle overs, but this is just the start of a tournament and we have plenty of firepower. Mustafizur and I started at the same time for the Qalandars and we're back together. Rauf has been good for us - we've made changes to the playing XI at times and it's worked. That's my job, when I'm batting, I try to build momentum for the team. We wanted to take wickets and build the pressure.
Marnus Labuschagne | Hyderabad Kingsmen Captain - It's the first hit out for the team; there are lots of lessons to learn. The spinners dragged it back in the middle overs, which was positive, but the batting struggled. We lost wickets in the powerplay and couldn't regain momentum. There are a lot of things that need to go right in a 200-run chase, need partnerships to develop. The conservativeness came down because of the loss of 3-4 wickets, the outfield was fast and there was value for shots.
Fakhar Zaman | Player of the Match - To be honest, I wasn't at my best and the wicket wasn't easy to bat on. I was lucky to score those runs and the bowlers were excellent. I was talking to Naeem, the message sent to the dressing room was that the wicket wasn't easy. We needed wickets in hand to score big in the death overs. Naeem made it easy for me - the plan was simple - he would take the attack to the bowlers and I wait for the bad balls. he's a special talent and I enjoyed batting with him.
22:56 Local Time, 17:56 GMT, 23:26 IST: A convincing win for the defending champions and a humbling loss for the newcomers - PSL 2026 has started with a one-sided affair. Chasing 200 was always going to be tough and the Kingsmen struggled right from the onset. They needed some big partnerships, but 25 for the opening wicket was their best stand. Marnus Labuschagne's laboured 26 was the top score, and they never looked competitive in the chase. Every bowler took atleast one wicket as the defending champions started their title defence on a canter. Stay tuned for the presentations.
