PLAYER OF THE MATCH
PLAYER OF THE SERIES
Yet another series defeat for West Indies who continue to struggle in this format. They have changed captains and personnel but don't seem to have found the winning formula. They did well in the last game to win via the Super Over but came a cropper today. The pitches here in Bangladesh not easy for anyone. But the home side thrive on such wickets. They will be happy as Mehidy Hasan Miraz gets his first series win as captain. The ODIs are done. Next up is the T20Is starting on the 27th in Chattogram. We will be there for that. On that note we take leave and escape. See you soon. Bye bye for now.
The winning trophy is presented to Mehidy Hasan Miraz who collects and is all smiles. He poses for the cameras before taking the trophy to his team-mates who gather around to pose for the cameras. The whole Bangladesh squad are all smiles.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz | Bangladesh captain: We start very well. The way Soumya and Saif batted. It was an excellent start. It was not easy on this surface, but the way they batted, getting so many boundaries in the first 20 overs. Last 4 matches we didn't bat well, but we had to have a positive mindset and everybody agreed we have to play positively, otherwise runs won't come. Rishad played really well in the whole series, both in bowling and batting. It's easy for the captain if everybody step up. Everybody supporting me and credit goes to our team. We are playing ODIs after a long time, if we play continuously, we will do better. I hope next year more ODIs are coming and hope the boys understand what we're doing.
Rishad Hossain is the Player of the Series. He too speaks in Bengali.
Soumya Sarkar is the Player of the Match. He speaks in Bengali.
Shai Hope | West Indies captain: Yeah, you said it. We obviously would have wanted to win this series, but it didn't happen for us today. It's been a tough series for us, especially as batters, but things to always learn from. Yeah, credit must be given to their openers, especially in the beginning there. It's been tough hours for the batters in general in the series, but we must give credit to those batters who came out and really showed that impetus at the beginning of the innings. I don't think we bowled as particularly well as we could, but yeah, these are things that we've got to be really critical of with our players. When we play in series like this, in conditions like this. But yeah, they batted really well and they bowled well and put us under pressure. It was very difficult to pull the game back and get back in. It was tough. I still think it was like a 170-180 surface. If you give them so many runs, it forces batters to chase, it's going to be difficult. But having said that, regardless of what they spoil you for, we've got to try to find a way to make the runs. If the bowler doesn't do it in a particular situation, then batters have got to raise their hand and we didn't do that as batters today. Yeah, most definitely. It's a different series, different format, same mindset. You've got to make sure you come down here to win games. Every single game, I always say, is very important. But again, you've got to get to Chattogram and see what the surface is like. Adapt, assess and hopefully we can play better cricket in that series.
19:39 Local Time, 13:39 GMT, 19:09 IST: A bilateral series win in ODIs for Bangladesh after a while - their last coming against Sri Lanka at home in March 2024. They had lost 4 on the bounce before this one. A first one for Mehidy Hasan Miraz as captain. This has been a thumping today. Once they made 296, it was always going to be tough for West Indies as we saw in the later part of the 1st innings. Predictably Bangladesh started with spin and used just the 4 bowlers - all spinners - to take all 10 wickets. Only Akeal Hosein at the end shone with the bat for West Indies, again a familiar tale of them succumbing to spin. Auguste was promoted to 3 but he fell for a duck and the rest of the batting order fared no better. The pitch spun sharply and in these conditions Bangladesh are a different beast. They romped to a 179-run win - their 2nd biggest in ODIs and their biggest against West Indies. Stay tuned for the post-match presentation...

Mehidy Hasan Miraz to Akeal Hosein, out Bowled!! Mehidy Hasan Miraz ends this with a fine delivery. it's a sharp turner, pitches middle-stump and then turns square, past the back foot defence of Akeal Hosein who is surprised. Still can't believe that it has found the off-stump. Bangladesh have hammered West Indies here to take the series. Akeal Hosein b Mehidy Hasan Miraz 27(15) [4s-4 6s-1]
