PLAYER OF THE MATCH
That's it for the ILT20 action for tonight. We will be back with more tomorrow. For now it's bye bye from all of us here.
Rovman Powell | Player of the Match: I think the way I batted the spinners, they have two quality spinners, Narine and Chawla, two world-class spinners. It's important when I went to bat that I fight them off and just not bat a lot of dot balls, just keep ticking over. And, once I did that batting the fast bowlers would come natural. (on Cox) He was very, very helpful. We just didn't want to get stuck in the middle or get stagnant. We always wanted to turn over the strike. We didn't want Narine or Chawla to keep bowling at one player. We wanted to rotate the strike and we think that was our best way to bat against two world-class spinners like them. When we were 10 overs down in our innings, they asked me what is a good score. I tell them that it's a good wicket. 180, 185 is a good score if we bowl properly, if we control the powerplay. But having said that we got that sort of… At the halfway stage, we were pretty comfortable. Not comfortable in the sense that we're sure we would have won. But once we control that powerplay, we know it will be difficult for them. (comparison with last year's team) Obviously, it's pretty different from last year. Last year, we had more match-winners, to be honest. But this year, the emphasis is on the senior guys, myself, Dasun, and those guys to really stand up and be counted. When we don't have players like that we had last year, more is on us to deliver. But having said that a lot of guys have come into the team, Coxy, a lot of guys, Neesham, and those guys, they have international standards. So, they come in and we expect them to pull their weight just like the guys did for this franchise over the last couple of years. (on the West Indians in the opposing side) It's a team that I hold close to my heart. It's my IPL team. I've played for them before, in various franchises. Champion, Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, good boys, good friends of mine. So, it's always good to go one up on them.
Dasun Shanaka | DC captain: We discussed at the toss about going from 160 to 180, so I'm really happy about the way we set up the tone after losing 3 quick wickets. Powell's power and Jordan Cox's stability, so I think we discussed having that one batter going deep until 18-19th over. Special knock from Rovi and really happy at how things went today. We got the right combination, but we need to make sure, you know, we take the game deep. So, that's the thing, if there are areas to develop, we need to look into that. So, I think there are areas to get on our way. Yeah, that's it, and, when it comes to bowling, the execution was there, we picked wickets in the powerplay, so it changed the whole momentum of the game. (on Powell and Cox) It was very impressive. You know, we had the discussion. And, of course, Powell, after the last game, he wanted to deliver something special in this game. And, of course, Cox, he didn't convert last game. He wanted to convert. So, that's the maturity they got playing a lot of cricket. So, I'm really happy for them.
Jason Holder | ADKR captain: We've got a bit to learn from this game. I think not to be playing our best game today, obviously. Yeah, we probably just short in all three departments, to be fair. I thought we were a little bit untidy in the field. Bowling-wise, we probably left a bit too many big overs. In terms of batting, we never really got a partnership. (on Russell coming on late with the ball) I guess in hindsight you could look at it in many different ways. Russell has been one of our death bowlers for a number of years. He's been really good at it. It didn't quite work out for us today, but I would still back him to do it again. Having said that, they played really well. I thought obviously Rovman and Jordan put together a really good partnership, which took the game away from us. I guess in hindsight we could look at a few things, but I think if we honestly look at ourselves in the mirror, we need to brush up on a few areas. We've still got to remain positive. We know where we let ourselves down today. We've got to be honest with one another, communicate well and come back stronger. There's no point in being too hard on ourselves. We've got an entire tournament in front of us. We've still got quite a few games to play. We just need to tighten up in a few departments and I'm sure we can turn it around. (on his bowling) Not too bad. I'm just happy that the ball came up pretty well and I executed most of what I wanted to do. It's a positive for me personally. Just build up again and go into this tournament deeper.
21:45 Local Time, 17:45 GMT, 23:15 IST: First win for the Capitals after two successive losses. Willey started off with two wickets in the opening over. Then Mustafizur took over with Chand's wicket in the 2nd over. The chase had already derailed by then and despite Salt hitting a few off the middle, the Fizz got him with a slower-ball. Once Waqar Salamkheil came on, he got into the act with a four-fer and finished it off. Nabi bowled an useful spell alongside him as ADKR had no answers. Such a strong batting lineup ADKR have but tonight they came a cropper. This big win also boosts DC's NRR while denting ADKR's. Stay tuned for the post-match stuff...
