PLAYER OF THE MATCH
That's it for this one. We will be back with more action soon. Stay tuned for that. For now it's bye bye.
Matthew Breetzke | Player of the Match: Very happy, very relieved. Yeah, it's a special occasion having my family here and to do it in front of the home crowd was really cool. (on difficulties in chasing here) Yeah, I mean, we saw in their innings at the backend how quickly you can score. So it's about giving that platform and then scoring in those last four overs. The wickets haven't been easy in the SA20. So you've got to build your innings and work the singles and twos and then the boundaries come. (on the pitch) To be fair, I mean, this is a typical St George's wicket, 160 is par score here. So I knew that going into the chase, I knew it wasn't going to be easy, but I knew I had to give myself time and at the end I would catch up. (how is his form?) Yeah, a little bit. I started off the comp well and then went through a little phase where I sort of made to change my game now because the wickets, like I said, haven't been easy. So it's about actually building an innings and trying to get to the last four and then having some fun. (on batting with de Kock) Yeah, it's been very clear from the coaching staff. I think that sort of innings I've played today is probably my role in the team. And obviously Quinny there at the other end, just nice and relaxed. He's awesome to bat with and he keeps it really simple. Yeah, look, I mean, me and Quinny, we're really close. He took me for a net before the game today and we just worked on a few things. But it was just more about keeping each other calm because we knew it wasn't easy and when you dot up like that, you can sort of fall to the pressure and luckily we didn't today.
Tristan Stubbs | SEC captain: I think we... a really good performance and perfect to take a lot of momentum into the playoffs. And yeah, I think the boys were up for today and we were given thrown a bit of adversity there with Milney and the way everyone got together, rode together and in the field just set us up to chase it down with the bat. (how challenging was it to plan without Milne?) I think thank goodness it's fine, otherwise it might have been a bit different. But no, the senior boys, we got together, we chatted, we came up with a plan and I think everyone backed up the bowlers in the field and it was a good bowling performance. (bonus point discussed?) In the chase? Yeah, in the chase. Not at all? Not at all. We wanted four points today. (on the pitch) I think they batted beautifully. The way Quinny and Breeto absorbed and then Breetzky's batted here so much at St. George's. That's sort of how you chase down 150 here. That's why I was a bit surprised when you asked about the bonus point because it gets harder and harder to bat and once you're in, yeah, it's a lot easier. So thankfully they were out there. (a confident outfit, how important is that?) Yeah, I think we've got a nice thing going with the senior players, the way we're chatting to each other and winning always helps and hopefully now we can take some momentum into the playoffs. (message to the crowd) Yeah, I think the crowd deserves a mention. They were awesome today. Yeah, they've been fantastic the whole tournament and we've owed them a win here on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon and we're very thankful for them.
Nicholas Pooran | MICT captain: Today obviously a tough day for us. We knew that we had to come into this game and try to win with a bonus point. Losing the toss, felt like Sunrisers.. Actually they bowled well. We lost our way in the middle there and it proved that that was the most important phase of the game for us. Felt like if we could've got 5, 10 more runs, it would have been a bit more challenging for them, but the guys really fought today. They came out the last two games and they fought extremely hard. And it's been a disappointing tournament for us this season and we got ourselves to blame for that. Most of the time, obviously, we haven't taken responsibility enough as batsmen and bowlers at some time. Obviously, I had a really poor tournament as well with the bat. And that contributed a lot of things as well, but disappointing season for us. (learnings from this season?) I mean, obviously, we are not off. We won the tournament last year with this franchise. You know, you can't win every single year, right? Obviously, we would have liked to qualify first and foremost, but it didn't happen. Again, it's all about being here in the tournament. It felt like it didn't happen for us. I'm not going to go into too much. It's all about taking responsibility and that's most important for us. We have a lot of pride as individual players and especially myself. I can't tell anyone else. I knew that I haven't performed and other players knew they haven't performed to the best of their ability as well. But the guys really tried their best. We tried to come together, but it wasn't meant to be. And it's not one that we're going to really try to dig deep and reflect and look for answers now. The tournament is done for us now, but it's all about learning from this and understanding what we need to do to come back next year and be successful. (why is it a hit or miss season for you?) I don't have the answer for you. Obviously, it's my first year here in the franchise. But we definitely got it right last year. So that means you can get it right again. So things happen for a reason, right? You can't question everything, but we have a lot of experienced world-class players here, and it's not going to take long for us to actually find out, you know, what's the answer. And these guys are lovely, it's a wonderful franchise to be a part of as well. And again, it's not all about, you know, we can't win every single game. You can't perform every single game and tournament as well. But we just want to continue to, you know, accept reality. If we accept reality, then we can move forward.
19:05 Local Time, 17:05 GMT, 22:35 IST: SEC end their league stage with a win and are now on 1st place. They are now confirmed of a top-two place which should give them two chances at getting to the final. Wasn't a straightforward chase but fine knocks from de Kock and Breetzke ensured they got over the line. Their stand of 109 was a contrast as de Kock took his time to get in but then shone with his typical flair. Breetzke on the other hand started so strongly but lost his timing and allowed his partner to find the boundaries in that phase. MICT just had two spinners and on this pitch they needed one more. Certainly they fought with what they had but they end their campaign on a disappointing note. Stay tuned for the post-match stuff...
