PLAYER OF THE MATCH
Australia 1 - 1 India. That's it for today. The action moves to Adelaide next. Tune in on Saturday for the third T20I of this multi-format series. Until then, goodbye.
Sophie Molineux | Australia captain: "It was a good game. Volly set it up really well for us, and India came hard like we knew they were going to and we held our nerves, which was great. We didn't have to change too much. I think it was the second game out, and we learned from the first game, and really proud of how our bowlers sort of held their nerve as well. As I said, they come hard at us, and we held in for as long as possible. We did say before the game that we really wanted to squeeze when there was an opportunity. It was great that everyone sort of jumped on board and did that. You could really feel it, it started to get really quiet around the ground, and it was quite tense, and we went the other way and attacked them and got a few dots and a couple of wickets, so it was really good. (On the reviews) When you've got two reviews in 20 overs, you sort of play around with it a little bit at the start, and Smriti's is obviously a massive wicket. So, yeah, it was pretty last minute, but luckily we went up."
Harmanpreet Kaur | India captain: "(On the batting collapse) We were looking for runs that time but it happens when you're looking for runs, sometimes you collapse. While batting we should have taken some more responsibility. Smriti and I, my partnership was very important. I think that was a crucial time when we lost Smriti's wicket. That was the turning point. Today was the first time we were batting and now we know the pitch and hopefully we'll plan better in the next innings. (Positives from this game) I think even though they started so well, after that, stopping them on a decent total, that was the biggest positive. Batting also, we had a few good partnerships, and it's only about taking the game deeper and one batter taking the responsibility in the end and finishing the game for the team."
Georgia Voll | Player of the Match: "It's obviously nice to contribute to the team, and obviously after the game the other night in Sydney, we were looking to come back and really dominate this game, so it was obviously nice to come out there and put that performance on and go 1-0 in the series. It's obviously a very hard-fought couple of games so far, so yeah, we're looking forward to getting to Adelaide and hopefully we can put another nice performance on and go 2-1 up. (First win as captain for Molineux) Yeah, of course. I think Sophie did a great job tonight, led us really well and just told us to keep sticking in there and stay nice and tight as a group and it can change quite quickly, and we saw with a couple of wickets there and the game turned sort of on its head. So, yeah, it was nice that we could come together as a group and get across the line tonight."
22:34 Local Time, 11:34 GMT, 17:04 IST: Inserted to bat, Georgia Voll top-scored for Australia with a 57-ball 88. India pulled things back with the ball. Australia were 128/0 in the 15th over and still managed to post just 163 on the board. In reply, the visitors got off to a brisk start with the openers remaining unscathed and scoring 54 in the powerplay. Australia fought back by picking up three wickets (India's top three) in four overs. Harmanpreet Kaur and Richa Ghosh kept India in the hunt with a fifty partnership. Kim Garth broke that stand by removing the Indian captain with a pace-off delivery and that triggered a collapse as India lost 6 wickets for 7 runs. The Australian bowlers used the variations smartly to defend the total. Gardner picked three wickets while Garth, Sutherland and Molineux picked two apiece. Australia will be glad with their bowling performance.
