Australia vs India, 3rd T20I

AUS
186/6(20)
IND
188/5(18.3)
PLAYER OF THE MATCH
It was solid from India today but Gill's inconsistency in this format will be a talking point if he doesn't get quality runs in the next two games. Arshdeep returned to the side and snatched the PoTM to make a strong statement. Imagine, the leading wicket-taker of the side doesn't find a place in the XI. Washi and Jitesh were two positives as well alongside Varun, who is going well despite playing for the first time in Australia. India will look to back players and help them iron out a few flaws and they move to Bill Pippen Oval, Gold Coast on Thursday - a venue where they have never played. The Aussies are hoping to have Maxwell back and they would also love to have good starts with the bat. Both sides are yet to play a complete game and they will be keen to do that in the fourth T20I. That's it for today. We'll see you all soon!
Suryakumar Yadav | India captain: (On finally winning the toss) Yes, it felt like we’d lost 19 or 20 tosses in a row, so it was great to break that streak. Winning the toss was important today, and I’m really happy with how the team performed. (On the changes working) Absolutely. Those guys were practising really hard and waiting for their chance. Washi (Washington Sundar) showed great flexibility, Jitesh contributed well, and Arshdeep was outstanding. It felt like the right combination tonight. Yes, they’re a fantastic pair (Bumrah and Arshdeep)- a bit like Shubman and Abhishek up top. Bumrah does his job quietly, keeps it tight, and Arshdeep capitalizes from the other end. Together, they’re a really lethal combination. It’s (series at 1-1) set up beautifully. We’re heading to a new venue, so it’ll be a fresh challenge, but the boys are confident and enjoying their cricket.
Mitchell Marsh | Australia captain: Yeah, we were probably 20 runs short. Credit to India - they bowled really well. We gave it our best in the field, but they deserved the win. (Learnings from having to bat first) We just needed those extra 20 runs. I liked the intent from our batters, especially Tim David, who came in after early wickets and played superbly. Stoinis too showed great experience at the end. In T20s, small margins one or two good overs or bad overs - can change everything. He (Maxwell) was close (to playing) today but not quite ready. Hopefully he’ll be fit and available for Thursday. He’s such an experienced T20 campaigner - we’d love to have him back.
Arshdeep Singh | Player of the Match: I’ve just been working on my process, trusting my skills, and executing the plans I’ve practised. It feels great to contribute when I get the chance. Yes (enjoying bowling to aggressive batters), definitely. When someone is coming hard at you, there’s always a chance to pick up wickets. And when someone like Bumrah is bowling from the other end, batters often take more risks against me, that gives me wicket-taking opportunities. I just try to enjoy my bowling and keep my plans simple. No matter the situation - powerplay or death - I just focus on execution and stick to what I’ve practised.

22:42 Local Time, 11:42 GMT, 17:12 IST: India square the series 1-1 with a game to go. In casy you didn't know, they have never dropped a T20I series in Australia. They were completely outplayed in Melbourne but from the moment SKY finally won a toss, they did a lot of things right. Arshdeep dismissing Head and Inglis early. David was going great guns but Varun struck twice in an over to dent the Aussies. He then found good company in Stoinis as the duo threatened to go big targetting Dube. The bowler had the last laugh as he managed to remove an ominous looking Stoinis. A lot of eyebrows were raised as Washi was never used with the ball but he added great value playing a brilliant 23-ball 49 to use the solid base and always keep India ahead of the asking rate. Abhishek and SKY ensured a good powerplay but Ellis used his smarts to get some quick wickets. Axar and Tilak shared a brisk partnership before Washi took the baton and guided the team home alongside Jitesh.

Abbott to Jitesh Sharma, FOUR, he's timed the cover drive too well and Washi will not be able to get the fifty. Full and outside off stump, Jitesh came forward and placed the drive nicely over the infield. Did he not know that only 3 runs were needed? Looks back and then realizes that the game is over

Abbott to Washington Sundar, 1 run, yorker on the off stump, digs out to mid-off and he's on 49 now with India needing 3 runs

Stoinis to Washington Sundar, 2 runs, oh almost smashed Stoinis on the way. Thankfully he took his head away and didn't get hit hands on it too. Full delivery, Washi hit that hard towards the bowler, cut off at long-on. Even the ump was ducking for cover
