Prelude:

India planned. India executed their plans to near-perfection. On Day 1 of the Ahmedabad Test, barring the toss, almost everything went India's way. England were rolled over for 112 and then the home side finished strongly on 99 for 3.

Axar Patel was the star of the show with six wickets while Ashwin gave him good support as the spinners bagged nine of the 10 wickets to fall. Amidst all the doom and gloom, Zak Crawley scored a fine fifty for the visitors.

England? It was a chastening experience. After the tourists were bundled out for a cheap score, they created some chances but couldn't make the most of it. There was also a bit of controversy in relation to Rohit Sharma's decision. The opener's foot seemed to be in the air very close when Foakes whipped the bails off.

Going into Day 2, India have all the aces and would eye a healthy lead on a wearing pitch.
