Hello and welcome to our love blog for the first ODI of the five-match series between the hosts England and Sri Lanka.

England have enjoyed a well-deserved break after their 2-0 win the Test series while Sri Lanka have warmed up for the shorter format contest with a 2-0 triumph over minnows Ireland.

We'll have the toss update in moment. Stay tuned.

The news from centre is that England have won the toss and have opted to field. Angelo Mathews says he would have batted first anyway.

Nuwan Pradeep comes in for Shaminda Eranga who was ruled out of the series after the ICC found his action illegal. Unfortunately, Eranga is also hospitalised with an irregular heartbeat in Ireland and hasn't travelled back with his team.

We'll get you the playing XIs shortly.

Sri Lanka: Kusal Perera, Danushka Gunathilaka, Kusal Mendis, Dinesh Chandimal(w), Upul Tharanga, Angelo Mathews (Captain), Dasun Shanaka, Farveez Maharoof, Seekkuge Prasanna, Nuwan Pradeep, Suranga Lakmal

England: Alex Hales, Jason Roy, Joe Root, Eoin Morgan (Captain), Jonny Bairstow, Jos Buttler(w), Moeen Ali, Chris Woakes, David Willey, Adil Rashid, Liam Plunkett

The batsman took their time to settle in before Perera launched a flury of boundaries in Wokes' second over.

Kusal Perera and Danushka Gunathilaka walk out to open Sri Lanka's innings. Chris Woakes with the ball.

Edged and taken at cover. David Wiley strikes early and Gunathilaka is on his way back. The batsman looks to push that through the cover region but can't get past Bairstow. Gone for 9 off 10 balls.

Kusal Mendis walks in.

Wiley strikes again and he's claimed the man in form - Kusal Perera. Full points to Jason Roy for the smart, low catch. Dives full length to his right and pulls off a stunner at backward point. No heroics from Perera tonight, folks. He walks back for 24 off 23 deliveries.

Dinesh Chandimal is the new man in at No. 4

Wokaes joins the party now. Short ball, Mendis looks to pull, gives away an edge to Buttler behind the stumps. Three down in under ten overs, Sri Lankaare in trouble!

Captain Angelo Mathews walks out next.

End of powerplay 1 and Sri Lanka's scorecard reads 59 for 3. Perera gave them a flying start but David Wiley led England's comeback with twin strikes before Woakes got the third wicket.

Senior pros Chandimal and Mathews in the middle for the repair work.

First bowling change - Adil Rashid into the attack now.

Sri Lanka have slowed down considerably, and understandably so. They've lost momentum but have just the right men in the middle to rebuild their innings. Credit to England for the terrific comeback. Sri Lanka 87 for 3 after 18 overs.

Moeen Ali strikes and he's claimed the big wicket. Chandimal walks back after a patient 37. Looks to sweep another one, sends it straight to Chris Woakes at deep backward square. Crucial wicket for England this. Alihas broken the 64-run partnership.

The hero from Sri Lanka's last ODI victory - Seekkuge Prasanna - is out in the middle. Can he repeat his heroics to bail the visitors out of trouble?

Adil Rashid wraps up his fine spell with figures of 10-0-36-0. Liam Plunkett is back.

Costly over from Moeen Ali there. Prasanna smacks him for a couple of big hits in the mid-wicket region, and follows it up with a boundary. 17 off the over. Sri Lanka need more of those!

Plunkett at the receiving end now. Four consecutive boundaries, the second of which takes him to his second consecutive fifty. Mind you, just off 24 deliveries! 19 off the over.

Woakes comes back into the attack and strikes immediately! He's removed the man in form - Seekkuge Prasanna! Such a soft dismissal. Short ball, Prasanna looks to pull but offers the easiest return catch. He looked unstoppable, yet again. Well done, Woakes. 59 off 28.

Upul Tharanga walks in next.
