Australia trail by 166 runs at the start of day 3 with only five wickets in hand. England have been significantly better with the ball than their counterparts. Moeen Ali's all-round efforts on the second day helped the hosts gain a mental edge. Australia still have some batting to come and will not be mowed down easily. How much of a lead can England manage? Will Watson and Co allow that? Lots to look forward to today. Bright and sunny conditions at Cardiff and play will get underway on time. Nightwatchman Lyon and Watson will start off proceedings with the bat for Australia.

Hazlewood forced an LBW review in the first over after lunch. Lyth was struck in line with the leg stump but the ball-tracker deemed it umpire's call. A fired up Hazlewood was not impressed with the call. That was the first ball after the break. Off the last ball, he had Ballance hopping and gloving to the 'keeper. Suddenly the pitch was offering a lot more to the bowlers. There was enough swing in the air as well. Maybe the Australians have just figured out the right lengths to bowl on this track. Seven wickets already today.
It's no joke anymore. The ball nips back in, Watson plays all over it with the front foot plonked out, the finger is raised, Watson looks puzzled and reviews it, the third umpire gives him no respite, Watson walks off still looking puzzled and with a scowl. Its been the story of his career over the last couple of years. Teams all over have worked him out but Watson fails to adjust to this ploy. Broad executed the plan perfectly to give England a stranglehold.
