Hello and Welcome to the fourth day's play of the 2nd Test between England and New Zealand. This Headingley Test swerved one way and then another and late last evening, New Zealand wrested control of the Test match thanks to a fine unbeaten century by BJ Watling. Interestingly, Watling was battling injury concerns in the build up to this Test and is playing as a pure batsman. What a call by the management!

More importantly, Watling was ably supported by an unusually restrained Brendon McCullum in a century stand for the fifth wicket that turned the game in New Zealand's favour. The lead stands at 338 and the Kiwis have four wickets in hand. If they can push the lead towards 400, England might well and truly be out of it. However, as of now England will know, a good opening session on Day 4 can bring them back in the game.

The pitch has started deteriorating. Expect more balls to shoot up or stay low. Batting will get increasingly difficult. I'm going to get myself a cup of coffee before what promises to be a cracking first hour of play!

A slight drizzle accompanied the players as they stepped out for the post-lunch session on Day 4. Thankfully for England, in the few overs of play possible, both Lyth and Cook survived, before the drizzle turned heavier forcing the players off. The commentators seem to reckon this might be a significant delay. Thankfully New Zealand scored at a brisk rate in the morning session.

Get warmed up to the day's play with these articles. NZ coach Mike Hesson and Brendon McCullum were honoured earlier this week for their services to cricket. To give you a sense of perspective, they're unbeaten in 6 Test series and made the finals of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015. Easily the most improved and most exciting team going around.
