Kohli decided to take the attack to Nehra in the third over, playing a cracking pull off the left-arm seamer for a four before sending one sailing over the bowler's head for a six. However, Ashwin kept the openers in check, conceding only two off the next over. RCB were 23/0 after four.

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have a batting line-up that is the envy of Indian Premier League (IPL). There is power, flair, brilliance and exuberance in their batting. It is baffling that this team has failed to achieve anything substantial other than two losses in the finals of IPL. In IPL 2015, this team is looking in great shape and they will be determined to reach the top of the mountain.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK), though, are a team who have the experience and skill to win the crunch games. They know how to raise their game on the big stage. They may have suffered a loss to Mumbai Indians in the first qualifier, but that will make them fiercely determined to put one over their southern rivals in the second qualifier.

Royal Challengers Bangalore will be aware that they are currently at the receiving end of a three-match losing streak against Chennai Super Kings. With confidence high after their clinical show against Rajasthan Royals, Royal Challengers Bangalore will go all-out to break their streak.

MS Dhoni won the toss and decided to bowl first in the qualifier 2 match at the CSK captain's home ground. Both teams were unchanged.

Dhoni: "It is a big match, a lot at stake and we need to play well. It's looking dry (the pitch), with a bit of dew around, it will help the pacers initially. It should be a good batting surface later on. Good to have Mike Hussey as a back-up to Brendon McCullum."

Kohli: "I think I am a bit more relaxed today. If we play well today, we are into the finals. Another exciting game coming up. I have enjoyed playing here, I have scored a few runs when playing for India. Looks a bit dry tonight. I would have batted first, to be honest. It's a big game, better to put the runs on the board. I think this track will crumble as the game goes on.

Teams:

Royal Challengers Bangalore (Playing XI): Virat Kohli(c), Chris Gayle, AB de Villiers, Mandeep Singh, Dinesh Karthik(w), Sarfaraz Khan, David Wiese, Harshal Patel, Mitchell Starc, Sreenath Aravind, Yuzvendra Chahal

Chennai Super Kings (Playing XI): Dwayne Smith, Michael Hussey, Faf du Plessis, Suresh Raina, MS Dhoni(w/c), Dwayne Bravo, Pawan Negi, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Mohit Sharma, Ashish Nehra

Chris Gayle did not take long to get going. Despite mistiming the second delivery of the innings, bowled by Ashish Nehra, there was enough power into the shot to take the ball over the cover boundary for a maximum. It was a tight opening over otherwise as Nehra bowled five dot balls. Dhoni decided to give R Ashwin the ball from the other end and the off-spinner started off with an economical over, conceding only five runs despite a boundary for Gayle. RCB were 11/0 after 2 overs.

Nehra picked up two wickets in the fifth over to leave RCB in a lot of trouble. Kohli (12) was the first to depart, flicking one straight to Mohit Sharma at backward square-leg. AB de Villiers followed soon, given out leg-before although the batsman had a rueful smile while walking back. Ashwin then bowled another economical over, giving away only four runs as RCB ended the powerplay at 29/2.

Gayle was struggling to get a move on and CSK sneaked in another tight over as Mohit Sharma gave away only three runs in the ninth over. Only 18 runs were scored in the last five overs while RCB lost three wickets. Suresh Raina was brought on to bowl the 10th over as Dhoni decided against using the left-arm spin duo of Ravindra Jadeja and Pawan Negi against Gayle. The part-time off-spinner started by giving away only five runs, keeping RCB to 46/3 after 10 overs.
