Chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC) and sidelined President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), N Srinivasan, has requested the Supreme Court of India to allow him to takeover as the President of BCCI after he was cleared of betting and match-fixing charges as per the Mudgal panel report. "Since the investigation by the panel is over and there is nothing incriminating against me, I must be allowed to take over as BCCI president," he said.

The Supreme Court of India had instructed him to resign from his position as the President of BCCI to facilitate investigations in the Indian Premier League (IPL) betting scam. Having stepped down in March 2014, Srinivasan has now sought reinstation ahead of the Board's Annual General Meeting (AGM) scheduled for December 17. Srinivasan is vying for another term as BCCI president, with support from the East Zone this time.

Srinivasan's counsel have also urged the Supreme Court not to terminate the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) from the IPL on grounds that allegations against the team involved in fixing games have been disproved. "Cancellation of CSK franchise will result in serious consequences as Chennai is the most popular team in IPL and its players enjoy huge popularity," they said.

They also added that Gurunath Meiyappan, indicted son-in-law of N Srinivasan, was neither a shareholder nor a director or an employee of the company and that he had not drawn any compensation from CSK. "As per IPL norms, disfranchising can be done only if the company of the franchisee or the owner of the franchisee violates relevant clauses," they added.
