Indians opted for some useful batting practice on the first day of their three day match against Leicestershire. Opting to bat first, the Indians were well served by useful fifties from Shikhar Dhawan, Cheteshwar Pujara and Gautam Gambhir.

Murali Vijay and Virat Kohli were the only two batsmen to be dismissed as the hosts bowling lacked sting. The only jarring note for the Indians came when Dhawan had to retire hurt after being hit on his right hand by a rising delivery from Atif Sheikh.

The tourists' will aim for more batting batting practise on the second day before allowing their bowlers to roll their arms over.
