The National Sports Council of Bangladesh announced on Tuesday (April 7) that it has decided to install an 11-member ad hoc committee to run the Bangladesh Cricket Board, after dissolving the Aminul Islam Bulbul-led board over what it described as large-scale irregularities in the last board election.
The 11-member ad-hoc committee:
President: Tamim Iqbal
Members: Rashna Imam, Mirza Yasir Abbar, Syed Ibrahim Ahmed, Israfil Khosru, Minhajul Abedin Nannu, Athar Ali Khan, Tanjil Chowdhury, Salman Ispahani, Rafiqul Islam Babu, Fahim Sinha, Ahar Ali Khan
"The committee has observed that Mr. Aminul Islam Bulbul's unilateral nomination of 10 former cricketers had a significant impact on the election process. This is because he gained an advantage from those councillors and potentially influenced the election results. I have informed you of the findings of the inquiry committee formed by the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the NSC. You have been able to realise this much that the committee has observed many irregularities in the 2025 BCB election and has clearly mentioned the matters of irregularities," said Aminul Ehsan, Sports Director of the NSC, about the desision to dissolve the current board.
"The National Sports Council, after reviewing the report of the formed committee, has reached the position that there were significant weaknesses and irregularities in the election process for the formation of the current BCB committee. In that context, the National Sports Council has already sent an email to the world cricket governing body, the ICC. In that email, the decision to dissolve this committee has been informed.
"At the same time, the formation of an 11-member ad hoc committee has also been informed. The formed ad hoc committee will be bound to deliver an elected committee within the next three months. At the same time, for the next three months, it will remain empowered like an elected committee to conduct the normal activities of cricket that exist.
"We believe, to ensure transparency in our sports arena, everyone from the 51 federations and associations under the control of the National Sports Council will follow the laws and regulations of the country's state and, most definitely, the National Sports Council's laws to conduct sports with transparency. To ensure the overall development of cricket, to ensure transparency regarding cricket in the minds of the people, and to remove the fears and doubts of the people, the NSC has taken this initiative. We hope we will soon receive a positive response from the ICC regarding this matter," Ehsan added.
Cricbuzz had earlier reported that the current board was likely to be dissolved within the week, with the NSC set to form an ad hoc committee. An NSC official had also indicated that discussions were underway with the ICC regarding the move, following the findings of the probe committee, which recommended reforms to ensure free and fair elections.
Earlier, state minister for Youth and Sports Aminul Haque had said that a decision would be taken after consultations with the ICC on the probe committee's report "The investigation committee found huge scale irregularities in the last election and we decided to form 11-member ad-hoc committee to run the board and they will hold elections by the next 90 days," the NSC official said on Tuesday.
"We have informed about the findings and forming 11-member ad hoc committee to the ICC and waiting for their reply," he said.
