Vaibhav Sooryavanshi smashed a blistering 175 to power India to a commanding position in the U19 World Cup 2026 final against England in Harare, smashing several records while at it.

175 by Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is the first 150-plus score in an U19 World Cup playoffs game, the previous highest being Nicholas Pooran's 143 against Australia in the 2014 quarter-final in Dubai. The previous highest in a final was Unmukt Chand's 111* against Australia in Townsville in 2012.

It's also the second-highest score for India in Youth ODIs, only behind Ambati Rayudu's 177* against England U19 in Taunton in 2002. Sooryavanshi's 171 against UAE U19 at ICCA, Dubai in December is third on this list.

14 years, 316 days - Sooryavanshi is now the youngest to register an U19 World Cup hundred; the record was previously held by Babar Azam, who did that at 15 years, 92 days against West Indies at Palmerston North in 2010. Only Sooryavanshi (4) and Najmul Hossain Shanto (1) have scored hundreds in Youth ODIs before turning 15 (where known).

Earlier in December, he became the youngest List A centurion (aged 14 years 272 days), achieving the record against Arunachal Pradesh during the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

55 balls taken by the left-hander made it the second-fastest U19 World Cup hundred, only behind the 51-ball effort by Australia's Will Malajczuk against Japan earlier in the competition.

218.75 - Sooryavanshi's strike-rate during his 175 off 80 is the highest for any individual innings of min. 50 balls in U19 World Cup history, followed by 185.45 for Will Malajczuk against Japan from two weeks ago.

71 balls taken by Sooryavanshi to get to 150 made him the fastest to the milestone in U19 World Cup (where data available), bettering 98 balls taken by Ben Mayes (for England against Scotland) at the same venue earlier in the competition.

Earlier this season, he had smashed the fastest List A 150 (off 59 balls, against Arunachal Pradesh), going past AB de Villiers' previous record of 64 balls against the West Indies in Sydney during the 2015 World Cup.

110 sixesfor Sooryavanshi in just 25 innings is by far the most in Youth ODIs, exactly double of the next best: 55 by Bangladesh's Zawad Abrar.

30 sixes for Sooryavanshi in the U19 World Cup 2026 is the most for anyone in the tournament's history, well clear of the previous record of 18, jointly held by Dewald Brevis (2022) and Finn Allen (across 2016 and 2018), followed by 15 by Jack Burnham (England) in 2016 and 14 each by Michael Hill (Australia) in 2008 and Nicholas Pooran (West Indies) in 2014.

15 sixes by the left-hander is the most for anyone in a Youth ODI innings (where known), surpassing his own 14 against UAE U19 at ICCA Dubai in December. The previous U19 World Cup record belonged to Australia's Michael Hill against Namibia (Penang, 2008).

4 - Sooryavanshi registered four 50-plus scores in the competition - all at a 100-plus strike-rate - the first to do so in the U19 World Cup.

439 - The youngster's aggregate in the competition is the fifth-highest for anyone in a single U19 World Cup edition in a list headed by Dewald Brevis (506 in 2022) followed by Shikhar Dhawan (505 in 2004), Ben Mayes (444 this edition) and Brett Williams (471 in 1988). Afghanistan's Faisal Shinozada, who scored a hundred in the semi-final on Wednesday, is sixth in this list with 435.

411/9- India is the first team to register a 350-plus total in an U19 WC playoffs game; they held the record previously - 349/6 vs Namibia in Fatullah in 2016 (QF), powered by Rishabh Pant's 111 (96). The previous highest in a final was Australia's 253/7 against India in 2024.

Overall, this was India's third 400-plus total at the U19 World Cup; no other team has more than one.
