The National Selection Committee seems prepared to wait on Washington Sundar. Just two days to the start of T20 World Cup and there is no information of Ajit Agarkar & Co. looking for a replacement yet.
It's learnt that the selectors are waiting for the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE) to provide more details but as of Thursday (February 5) Sundar seems part of the team management and selectors' plans for the World Cup.
The 26 year-old all-rounder, recovering from side strain sustained last month, was a missing member from the squad during Wednesday night's warm-up encounter against South Africa. Cricbuzz understands that Sundar has some more time to get back to fitness.
How long the team management and selectors will wait is not clear but as of now they are in no rush to replace the Tamil Nadu all-rounder. Evidently, the final decision will depend on the advice of the trainers and physios of CoE and they do not seem to have given up hope of Sundar's readiness for the marquee event as yet.
Sundar suffered side strain during India's first ODI against New Zealand last month and he has been out of action, having enrolled himself for the rehab process at the COE. At the time the BCCI had said, "Washington Sundar underwent scans after reporting an acute onset discomfort in his lower rib area while bowling during the first ODI against New Zealand at the BCA Stadium, Vadodara, on 11 January.
"This was followed by an in-person consultation with an expert. He has been diagnosed with a side strain and has been advised rest for a few days, following which he will report to the BCCI Centre of Excellence (COE) for further management of his injury."
BCCI and selectors have no information of any serious injury to Harshit Rana. The Delhi and KKR bowler walked off the field on Wednesday night after bowling just one over, raising concerns over his fitness, but sources said the BCCI has not received any information about Rana. He bowled just one over in the warm-up match, conceding 16 runs. While batting, he faced one delivery and remained not out on zero.
