ACB limits players to three foreign T20 leagues to manage workload

Afghanistan Cricket Board announced on Wednesday (January 14) that their cricketers will be allowed to take part in only three franchise-based T20 tournaments to protect player fitness and mental well-being. The decision was taken during the Annual General Meeting (AGM) at the ACB headquarters in Kabul that was chaired by ACB Chairman Mr. Mirwais Ashraf.

"To protect player fitness and mental well-being, the Board approved a new policy regarding foreign leagues," ACB said in a statement following the AGM. "Players will now be permitted to participate in the Afghanistan Premier League (APL), plus only three other international leagues per year. This measure aims to manage workload and ensure peak performance for national duties."

The move could have a financial impact on many Afghanistan cricketers like Rashid Khan, Noor Ahmad, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, AM Ghazanfar and Rahmanullah Gurbaz as they are in high demand in the franchise-based T20 circuit.

ACB also stated that a clause will be added to their foreign coaching staff to visit Afghanistan when required to ensure that domestic players can benefit from the expertise and experience of elite coaches, thereby fostering local talent development.

The ACB leadership was highly praised for the resumption of the Afghanistan Premier League (APL) and the launch of major infrastructure projects.

The meeting was attended in person by ACB Chairman Mirwais Ashraf, ACB CEO Naseeb Khan, Board Member and Kardan University Chancellor Dr. Ahmed Khalid Hatim, Board Member and ACCI Head Khan Jan Alokozay. Board members Allah Dad Noori, Obaidullah Saderkhel, Attila Kamgar, and Raees Ahmadzai participated virtually via video link.
