In a closely-fought low-scorer in Ahmedabad, Haryana beat hosts Gujarat by 4 wickets to register their third successive victory. Despite no play on Day 1, the match provided plenty of thrills, with Haryana emerging in front. Gujarat started the day at 113 for 8 and ended up with only 137, with Nikhil Kashyap bagging four wickets. Needing 62 to win, Haryana slipped to 18 for 4, 30 for 5 and then 43 for 6. Parth Vats and Yashvardhan Dalal ensured there were no further hiccups as they took their team to victory.
Mohsin Khan finished with remarkable figures of 6 for 29 in 23.3 overs as Karnataka completed a dominant victory by an innings and 164 runs against Kerala. Following on, Kerala started the day at 10 for 0 but they kept losing wickets regularly, with opener Krishna Prasad's 33 being the highest score. Mohsin, the 22 year old offspinner playing his third first-class game, bagged his maiden five-wicket haul to ensure a victory for Karnataka despite Kerala fighting it out for 79.3 overs.
Mayank Mishra's five-wicket haul powered Uttarakhand to a thrilling win in a low-scoring game against Services in Delhi. Chasing 123 for victory, Services started the day at 71 for 5. Barring Arjun Sharma (23), none of the other batters reached 20 as Uttarakhand, through Mayank, Jagadeesha Suchith and Avneesh Sudha made regular inroads to eventually help their side to a 17-run win as Services were bowled out for 105.
A fine knock of 175 not out from Abhirath Reddy helped Hyderabad secure a four-wicket victory against Himachal Pradesh as they chased down a target of 344. Starting the day at 8 for 0, Hyderabad lost Tanmay Agarwal early but Abhirath formed useful partnerships with the rest of the batters in the top six, including a century stand for the second wicket with Rahul Radesh (66) as Hyderabad got to the target in 75.3 overs.
Andhra completed a facile victory by an innings and 50 runs against Odisha, with Saurabh Kumar and Tripurana Vijay picking up six wickets between them to expedite a quick end to the home team's second innings. Following on, Odisha were 190 for 2 at the start of the day but they ended up being skittled out for 274. Gourav Choudhury top-scored with 80 in the second essay, while Sandeep Pattnaik scored 63. But the rest of the batters failed to come to the team's rescue as Odisha slipped to their second loss.
Anukul Roy bagged five wickets while Manishi finished with four in the second innings as they helped Jharkhand register a comprehensive victory by an innings and 196 runs against Nagaland. Nagaland, who began the day at 104 for 5 in their second essay, were bowled out for 160 as they lost their second game in this competition.
Top batting performances
Having conceded the first-innings lead to Rajasthan, Mumbai came up with a good show in their second innings before the match finished in a draw. Yashasvi Jaiswal's 156 headlined the effort, with Musheer Khan scoring 63 as Mumbai finished with 269 for 3 in their second essay before the players shook hands.
Delhi came up with a strong batting performance in their second innings after conceding the first-innings lead to Puducherry as the match ended in a draw. Arpit Rana's career-best 170 not out, also his maiden first-class hundred, came in a 321-run unbroken stand with Sanat Sangwan (122*), who got his second first-class ton, both in this edition of the Ranji Trophy.
Hanuma Vihari's 141 and Manisankar Murasingh's 102 not out helped Tripura gain the crucial first-innings lead in their drawn match against Bengal. Tripura started the day at 273 for 7, with Vihari on 121 and Murasingh on 42 resuming their overnight partnership. The pair took Tripura closer to Bengal's first innings total of 336 before Vihari fell lbw to Ishan Porel. Murasingh then went on to bring up a fine hundred as Tripura finished with 385 and then left Bengal at 90 for 3 before the teams shook hands.
Amandeep Khare's 156 and solid contributions from Aditya Sarwate (79) and Arafat Khan (49) helped Chhattisgarh bag the first innings lead as their match against Jammu & Kashmir finished in a draw. In reply to J & K's 394, Chhattisgarh were 257 for 6 at the start of the day. But Khare put on a crucial partnership with Sarwate to help their side into the lead.
Baba Indrajith's 77 not out, along with useful knocks from Shahrukh Khan and Mohamed Ali, helped Tamil Nadu avert a defeat against Vidarbha, who took the first-innings lead. Following on, and with a big deficit, Tamil Nadu started the day at 6 for 0 in their second innings. Opener Athish SR scored 46 but the rest of the top order failed to hang around as Tamil Nadu slipped to 47 for 3. Indrajith then put on half-century stands with Athish, Shahrukh and Ali as Tamil Nadu entered the lead late in the day, finishing with 233 for 6 as the match ended in a draw.
Top bowling performances
Adarsh Singh's six-wicket haul overshadowed Swarupam Purkayastha's ton as Railways took the first-innings lead against Assam, with the match finishing in a draw. Assam started the day at 99 for 1, pursuing Railways's first innings total of 224. Purkayastha tried to guide his team closer but wickets fell regularly at the other end. Assam, at one stage, were 151 for 3 but they ended up losing their last seven wickets for the addition of only 68 runs, with Adarsh running through them with an inspired spell.
Kumar Kartikeya bagged four wickets while Aryan Pandey and Arshad Khan picked up three apiece as Madhya Pradesh took the first innings lead in their drawn encounter against Chandigarh. The visitors were 236 for 4 at the start of the day in Indore, chasing the home team's 384. Raj Bawa fought with a knock of 77 after Ankit Kaushik, the overnight half-centurion, fell without adding to his tally. But lack of support from the other end meant that Chandigarh were bowled out for 310 in their first innings.
