Prithvi Shaw was involved in an avoidable altercation with his former Mumbai teammates in Pune on Tuesday. The former India and Mumbai opener, now representing Maharashtra, was seen angrily rushing at Musheer Khan after completing a brilliant century against his former domestic side.

Shaw allegedly went a step further by trying to raise the bat and hold the collar of the Mumbai spinner after being subjected to intense sledging on the opening day of the three-day friendly match between Mumbai and Maharashtra at the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) Stadium in Gahunje, Pune.

Opening the batting, Shaw hammered a splendid 181 off 220 balls, with 21 fours and three sixes, and shared a huge 305-run opening stand with Arshin Kulkarni. Kulkarni too notched up a superlative century, scoring 186 off just 140 balls with 33 fours and four sixes, after Maharashtra opted to bat.

Sources from both sides confirmed that the incident occurred soon after Shaw's dismissal, with Maharashtra at 430 for three. He was caught by Irfan Umair off Musheer Khan at square leg boundary in the 74th over. Following the dismissal, Musheer is alleged to have reportedly sledged him by saying "Thank you."

Having just completed a superb century, Shaw is said to have taken offence to the send-off, which led to the altercation. Video footage showed an on-field umpire stepping in to pacify Shaw and escorting him away from the Mumbai players.

"It's a practice match. They are all former teammates. Such things happen. It's all ok now and there is no issue," said Ankit Bhawne, the captain of Maharashtra side. At the time of publication there is no information of either Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) and Maharashtra Cricket Association (MACA) escalating the matter.
