The GMR and JSW Groups, co-owners of the Delhi Capitals franchise in the Indian Premier League (IPL), issued a joint statement on Thursday (October 17) morning regarding the management of the team, a subject that Cricbuzz has reported earlier. Additional media releases are expected later today, confirming what has also been reported earlier by Cricbuzz -- about new appointments, changes in leadership, and, notably, developments concerning Sourav Ganguly.
Capitals shake-up: Sourav Ganguly to shift focus to WPL, SA20

First and foremost, what will be Ganguly's role in the IPL? The former India captain is set to continue his association with the franchise, but not in a direct capacity with the Delhi Capitals IPL team. Over the next two years, he will serve as the director of cricket, a position he has held for the past two seasons, but this time for the Pretoria Capitals in the SA20 and the Delhi Capitals team in the Women's Premier League (WPL).
This change is primarily due to Ganguly's association with the JSW Group which will get back control of the team only after two years. In the meantime, the former president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will take a step aside, remaining on the sidelines as the GMR Group, owned by Kiran Kumar Grandhi, takes charge of the franchise for the next two years.
