In 2008, the full salary purse for a team was INR 20 crore - USD 5 million at a foreign exchange value of INR 40 per US dollar - and squads of any size could be built with that limited fund. Fifteen years on, three players came close to commanding a price that would have been the total salary cap of a team in the first year.
It opened up a big debate at the auction venue in Kochi on Friday (December 23). Fifteen years from today will there be a player or a group of players who will attract a fee as high as INR 100 crore, the salary cap of the next auction? The 'Big Three' of
