At the halfway stage as New Zealand wrested back some momentum to get to 151 on a slow Sydney pitch, the match rested on an even keel. Even, only because Pakistan although having reached the semifinal of the World Cup, still had a fair few chinks in the armour. The bowling department had ensured thus far that they did not have the necessity to chase down very high totals in the tournament, but this one was the highest as yet that they had to scale if they were to get to the final.
