Rahul Dravid has said that the team management will back Rishabh Pant's attacking predisposition as a batsman but will have conversations with him about picking and choosing his moments to play his brand of uber-aggressive cricket.

Pant was the subject of much scrutiny following his dismissal for a three-ball duck in the second innings of India's defeat in Johannesburg, his decision to charge at Kagiso Rabada at a crucial juncture in the game much questioned, most notably by former India captain Sunil Gavaskar on commentary. Pant was dismissed amidst a hostile spell from Kagiso Rabada, whose wickets on the third day of the Test had negated India's early advantage earned through the Ajinkya Rahane - Cheteshwar Pujara partnership.
