Ajinkya Rahane won the toss and opted to field. KKR brought back Spencer Johnson for Moeen Ali.
Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram raced off the blocks, scoring 59 in the PowerPlay.
Harshit Rana gave KKR their first breakthrough by breaking the 99-run opening stand with a slower ball that went through Markram's defences.
After playing second fiddle to Makram (49) in the first six overs, Marsh went up a gear post the PowerPlay and completed a 36-ball half-century.
Nicholas Pooran went even better as he slammed a half-century off just 21 balls.
Pooran hit as many as eight sixes and his 87* (36) powered LSG to 238.
KKR got off to a great start before a smart review gave LSG their first breakthrough.
Sunil Narine (30 off 13) and Ajinkya Rahane led a thrilling counter as KKR blitzed 90 runs in the PowerPlay.
Ajinkya Rahane scored a 26-ball half-century and added 71 for the third wicket with deputy Venkatesh Iyer.
After bowling five wides to start an over, Shardul Thakur dismissed Rahane with a full toss.
KKR went through a rough late-overs phase in which they lost 5 for 23.
Rinku Singh blasted 38* off 15 but KKR fell short by 4 in a game that saw an aggregate of 472 runs.
Digvesh Rathi enjoyed top performance, giving away just 33 runs from his 4 overs while picking up the big wicket of Narine.
