Afghanistan opted to bat. Mohammad Shahzad was dropped twice off debutant Shaheen Afridi and eventually lost his wicket to Mohammad Nawaz.
Mohammad Nawaz, brought into the side for injured Shadab Khan, dismissed the openers off successive balls.
Rahmat Shah was the third wicket to fall, all three picked by Mohammad Nawaz.
Asghar Afghan started with a six off his first ball and then went big towards the end of his innings. He scored 67 off 56, hitting 2 fours and 5 sixes.
Hashmatullah Shaidi played an innings of 97 not out. He started off slow and caught up in the end, delivering Afghanistan to 257 in the first innings.
