Pat Cummins then dismissed Alex Hales to put Australia ahead.
Jason Roy, however, hammered a quick ton to help England surge ahead in the contest.
Joe Root struck a half-century and played second fiddle to Roy to keep the Australian bowlers at bay.
Roy (180) and Root (91*) helped England canter to a five-wicket win.
