Shaun Marsh began Australia's chase cautiously, but managed to put on a half-century stand for the opening wicket, with David Warner.

Sri Lanka batted for 4.3 overs in the morning, before declaring their innings on 347 for 8. Dhananjaya de Silva, who scored a century in the first innings, stroked a half century in the second essay.
